I used to hang out at this place in Spanish Harlem called The Spanish Hotel. It was sort of like a refuge for poets, misfits, artists, and freaks.
This song is about my last night there.
It started out like any other night; the regular organized chaos, noise, laughter, tears, heartache, dreams, demons, and celebrations and then this dude who one of the girls there used to be married to showed up all drunk and angry for some reason and everything kind of blew up and fell apart. After that night I never went back there and haven't heard from most of that crowd, for the better.
It was home for a minute and then it became the last place I wanted to be. It helped me move on from a lot of my past and showed me what I wanted and didn't want in my future.
This song is about moving on.
lyrics
We sat at the docks down by the water
You said you loved me, I didn't know what to say
If you must ask I'm stuck in the past I'm still in love with someone else
I wish that I could make these feelings go away
I don't know what's going on
I don't know what's going on
But I like it
I'm just trying to move on
After all is said and done
Darling I don't kiss and tell
But I gotta know what's going on in the Spanish hotel
Every criminal wants to get caught
I see you're waiting patiently for me
But every teacher doesn't want to be taught
If I could I would
Set you free
I don't know what's going on
I don't know what's going on no
But I like it
I'm just trying to move on
After all is said and done
Darling I don't kiss and tell
But I gotta know what's going on in the Spanish hotel
My heart still belong to you
My soul stills belongs to you
My love all of my love belongs to only you
And my body still belongs to you
